J. Brahms: Sonata for Violin and Piano op.100 A major F-A-E Sonata for Violin and Piano (Dietrich, Schumann, Brahms)
"The masterpiece of the German composer in the hands of 5 outstanding musicians: Noémi Tiercet (violin) Marie-Louise de Jong (viola), Wouter Vercruysse (cello), Bram Decroix (double bass) and Sara Vujadinovic (piano). This masterful music inspired by nature finds a suitable setting with the Culture Chapel Odulphus located on the Scheldt. With the support of the Flemish Government. Throughout the centuries, artists have often had an eye for the beauty of nature. Numerous works of art and pieces of music are devoted to it. Far away from the evil world, verses were written, leafy bushes painted and babbling brooks turned into music. Two song composers who often plunged through nature with a sob and a tear and were inspired by the scents and colors around them were Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann (1810 - 1856). Every now and then Schubert went out with his friend the baritone singer Johann Vogl (1786 - 1840). On one of these trips, Schubert felt very happy, which was remarkable because he was mostly depressed. However, not now; the sun was shining, the scents were intoxicating and nature showed its splendor. Reason for Schubert to write a masterpiece: the Trout Quintet D.667 (1819). He wrote this piano quintet in A for the following instrumentation: piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass. The five-part quintet earns its popularity in particular from the fourth movement in which six variations on the song Die Forelle can be heard. In Die Forelle (which Schubert had already written in 1817) a trout swims happily splashing through the water, unaware that a fisherman will soon catch it."

Long before achieving fame with West Side Story, Leonard Bernstein wrote many pieces of chamber music. His enchanting early composition Piano Trio is full of references to different styles. His Sonata for clarinet and piano is clearly a precursor of West Side Story. The rhythmic elements make this music very lively and energetic. Tmesis Ensemble comes full circle with compositions by Bernstein’s sources of inspiration (Gershwin, Copland and Barber).
Schumann, Bruch, Stravinsky, Debussy, Neyrinck, P.Lamouris, M.Ravel, C.Saint-Saëns International chamber music ensemble Tmesis, laureate of the Supernova Competition 2016 by Klara, was founded in 2016 at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Since their recent creation, Tmesis was invited by festivals such as the Klarafestival, the Portuguese HARMOS Festival, the Schiermonnikoogfestival in the Netherlands, Klara in deSingel and the festival Midis-Minimes. They have been broadcasted on the Euroclassical Online Festival, Musiq’3, Radio Klara and the British BBC Radio 3. Tmesis is ensemble in residence in Beeldenstorm (Anderlecht) and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Their first CD "Echos" will soon be released under Etcetera label. The quintet formation, actually a 'pocket-sized orchestra' (winds, strings, piano), is the solid base that guides us throughout a story full of variation. Differentrepertoire for quintet, interrupted in the style of the rhetorical 'tmesis' (ancient-Greek for ‘cut, break’) by works in contrasting formations and styles (duo, trio, …) – the possibilities are endless! - Géraldine Clément, flute - Panagiota Giannaka, clarinet - Diede Verpoest, violin - Alexandra Lelek, violoncello - Sara Vujadinovic, piano
